Do people prefer straight lines or curves when they do design work? According to Eric Jaffe article on Fast Co.Design, it seems people subconsciously prefer curves. But in nature, there is no structure that can be classified.
In traditional architecture, which was more tied to nature, such the entrance of the largest Chinese myrtle garden in Xiangyiang. This design is not just about the link of the inside with the outside, but also about the connection of its visitors. This gate as an area of gathering, instead of a point of passing through. Inspired by the shape of a flower, two blossoms define the gate, honoring the beautiful landscape of the area. The space between this gate not only serves the flower garden as an entrance gate and meeting point for visitors, but also can be used as a sheltered void which serves the community for concerts or lectures. From the outside, the ‘blossom gate’ is a symbol for unity and harmony and for sure a desired background for wedding pictures in the flower garden.
Therefore, in the process of design, the end product will acquire qualities of life when people go through an interactive sequence of steps. Also people need to learn how to design things that have the quality of life, that possess wholeness. Design is not only about the link of the inside with the outside, but also the ornament and function go together.
